Funding for Barents youth projects doubled

Bilde 867_220x147The Norwegian Ministry of Children and Equality have increased their funding to multilateral youth cooperation in the Barents region. The funding is now doubled and the Norwegian Barents secretariat can allocate 220 000 Euros to youth projects in the region in 2010.

Since 2003 The Norwegian Ministry of Children and Equality have allocated 1 Mill NOK to support the youth cooperation in the Barents region according to the priorities in the Barents regional youth Program adopted by the Barents regional Council.

The program have focused on active citizenship, youth initiatives, democracy, people to people cooperation, culture, sports, indigenous peoples, environment, education and health. More than 130 projects at a total value of 40 Mill NOK have been supported till now.

The interest for the program has been increasing the last 6 years. There have been a strong need to strengthen the funding to meet the increased number of cross-border youth initiatives in the region. It is of high importance for the future of the youth cooperation in the high north that the ministry has a focus on this.
