Human Rights in Barents “Yeah Right!”

“Yeah Right!” will be carried out in cooperation with the Human Rights days 2008, which for the first time are arranged in the Barents Region. The happening takes place in Luleå 13th – 16th of November 2008. The main aim of “Yeah Right!” is to attract attention to the international cooperation on human rights, and it will be focused on human rights in the Barents Region from youth perspective.
Barents Regional Youth Council consists of youth representatives from each member region in addition to an indigenous people representative. BRYC arranges annually youth events for the members of the Barents Region. “Yeah Right!” will be of and for youths in the Barents Region and will function as a connection between youths who will meet across cultural and geographical borders in order to discuss human rights.
The participants will increase their knowledge of human rights questions, with especially emphasis on children’s and indigenous people’s rights. The arrangement will be a meetingspot and is intended to strengthen the contact between the youths from different nations and ethnic groups. International cooperation is used as a tool to promote equality among people with different backgrounds and to put focus on crucial questions concerning human rights in the Barents Region.
The Human Rights Days last for three days with a interesting workshop, conferences, lectures music, art and literature with concentration on human rights. The conference encourages the participants to build friendships and networks, in order to increase the international contact. The lectures provide the youths with information of human rights and how to promote human rights internationally. The workshop’s result is intended to be projects the youths have prepared.
BRYC will coordinate a quiz competition, and the winners are awarded Barents passports.
