The Youth Council met in Kirkenes

The 20.-22.March the Barents Regional Youth council(BRYC) met in Kirkenes to carry out their annual meeting and plan the yearly BRYC-event that this year will take place in Arkhangelsk.

The 14 members of the youth council representing all member region and indigenous people, meet twice a year. The annual meeting elects a board that meets three time per year to keep continuity in the work and to work more intesively with the planning  and implementation of the annual BRYC event.

At the council meeting prior to the annual meeting the event for 2009 were on the agenda. This years event will take place in Arkhangelsk and the focus will on predudism and xenofobia. The dates for the event is set to 16.-20.september. The plan is to gather 60 youths from all the Barents countries and together set up a performance that trough different expressions will illustrate the negative effects of prejudism.

The goal is to make the participants more open towards differenceness and give the audience a good valuable experience and make them think and start a changing process. The methodology developed though the project may be used in other foras that will fight xenophobia, both NGO and public institutions.

During the annual meeting a board was elected and elected member are Norway: Kristine Iversen, Finland: Rosa Oikarinen, Indigenious people: Halvard Rundberg, Russia: Xenia Kipurova, Sweden: Ylva Maria Pavval. Ylva Maria Pavval was elected as chair and Xenia Kipurova as deputy chair.
